Individuals who wish to obtain a New York Real Estate Brokers license must successfully complete both the approved qualifying salespersons course and brokers course. The salespersons course must be successfully completed prior to the broker course in New York. All applicants for a broker license must complete both courses in order to satisfy the educational requirement. Experience as a salesperson will not exempt anyone from taking either course in order to qualify for a brokers license. The experience requirement to obtain a brokers license is a separate qualification for licensure.
