Once licensed, individuals are required to successfully complete 22 1/2 hours of approved New York real estate continuing education prior to their license renewal.Courses can be taken in three different formats:in-class,video and online.
Any salesperson who successfully completes an approved broker qualifying course of study can receive 22 1/2 hours of credit toward the continuing education requirement for their current two year sales license renewal period.
Exemptions from the continuing education requirement include:
a) Attorney who holds a license and is admitted to the NYS Bar.
b) A real estate broker who has 15 consecutive years of combined licensure as a salesperson and a broker and who is actively engaged in the real estate business before July 1, 2008. Please note: A broker who fails to renew their license by the expiration date of that license, will lose their "consecutive years" and will no longer be exempt. The fifteen years will begin again with the new dates of licensure.
